The mountain biking trails in and around Flattach offer abundant possibilities for the suitable elevation of the adrenalin levels, whether you prefer a leisurely drive along the R8 trail (Glockner bike trail) or a challenging trail to Lake Oschenik or Lake Weißsee.
Glockner bike trail (R8)
The Glockner bike trail starts in Heiligenblut near Großglockner and leads for the most part along the shores of the Möll River to the Möll bridge where it merges with the Drau bike path. Best of all: The majority of the trail is slightly downhill and the bike bus will conveniently take you back to the starting point. A number of adventure points including the Ragga Canyon in Flattach, the Groppenstein Canyon in Obervellach or the Barbarossa Canyon in Mühldorf invite you to stay a while and let you cool off
comfortably.
Lake Oschenik
Lake Oschenik is the highest altitude natural lake in Carinthia and the reservoir for the white gold of Tauern - electricity. The trail starts in Flattach, along the R8 to Ausserfragant and uphill along a narrow asphalt path to Laas. Continue on an almost even pebble path for 2km, along the Fragant Stream toward Innerfragant. From here there will be no mercy for your calves. With an average of 13 percent, the steep almost incessantly winding asphalt road will continue to climb 1300 meters without interruption. The reward is a spectacular view of the pointy Oschenik towers and Möll Valley all the way to the Kreuzeck group.
Lake Weißsee
Bike to the glacier where other's are skiing during the summer time - this is the special feature of this difficult trail to Lake Weißsee and further to the Eissee House. The trail starts in Flattach, along the R8 to Ausserfragant and uphill along a narrow asphalt path to Laas. Continue on an almost even pebble path for 2km, along the Fragant Stream toward Innerfragant and from there on an asphalt road to the mid-station of the Glacier Railways (2,234m). From here, Weißsee House is located just 150 metres higher along the narrow asphalt road. From there, a steep dirt road leads to Eissee House, the central ski station at Mölltal Glacier. This trail is rewarded with an unbelievably impressive view of our mountains that can be enjoyed on the patio of the Eissee Restaurant with a cool refreshment.
This trail is currently closed due to construction-related traffic.
